2025 Dakar: First stage Victory for Lorenzo Santolino

2025  Dakar: First stage Victory for Lorenzo Santolino

At the end of the 327 km third stage of the Dakar 2025, shortened between Bisha and Al-Henakiyah, Lorenzo Santolino pulled off a stunning performance by winning a demanding special. This victory marks Sherco’s 6th success in the Dakar, following the achievements of David Casteu, Alain Duclos, Joan Pedrero, and Mickael Metge. It is also Sherco’s first stage victory in Saudi Arabia.

Rui Gonçalves finished 15th, just 7 minutes behind his teammate.
In the provisional overall standings, Lorenzo Santolino holds 10th place, while Rui Gonçalves is 19th.

Lorenzo Santolino:

“Today’s stage was quite technical, with lots of stones and rocks from the very beginning up to kilometer 100. I pushed hard, taking it to the limit, while staying extremely focused on navigation. I managed to catch up to the leader, who started 5 minutes ahead of me, in the fast section. We rode together, and I was able to maintain the lead.

Winning a stage is simply incredible—really hard to believe. The stage alternated between very fast zones and more technical sections with demanding navigation over the final 150 kilometers. Despite the risks I took, it was absolutely worth it.

I’m extremely happy and want to thank Sherco, all my sponsors, and especially my family for their constant support. My mother always believes in me, even when I struggle with certain passages. Now, onto the next challenge!”

Tomorrow, the riders will tackle a 588 km marathon stage without assistance, taking them from Alula to Hail.
