2024 Dakar Sage 8: Rui Gonçalves 6th and Harith Noah is the winner in Rally 2!
After a long and intense stage 7, the competitors were confronted with this eighth stage with contrasting terrain and a slight drop in intensity. The special took place in two timed sections: the first one consisted of 165 km of fast sand and the second one was 119 km that was more technical and had many rocky areas along with some dry riverbeds. The riders also had a section of around 200 km of asphalt to ride.
Rui Gonçalves had a nice comeback and finished in 6th place in the stage. Harith Noah achieved the best time in the Rally 2 category and our rider from India achieved his first success in the Dakar. He finished very close to the top10 in the general general of the stage and he is currently 3rd in Rally 2 in the provisional classification.

Rui Gonçalves:
“I started seventh this morning and I felt good from the start. I rode alone all day, so it was important to have a good pace, but also to be very focused on the navigation. In the second part it was a little more technical, I was able to attack, I felt good with the bike but towards the end, I made a small mistake which made me lose a little time, but I managed to catch up and recover a few more minutes and, in the end, I finished in a good sixth place. Stringing together two good days like that felt good and it was a boost to the whole team who continue to do a great job. The bike is running well, and I feel good so we hope to keep it like that.”
Harith Noah:
“I felt good on the bike and my health has also improved. I believe that everything is fine in a good way, especially when you feel good. I focused on navigation and increased my tempo when I was comfortable. I lost some time trying to find the way in the second part. Tomorrow is another day, and the Dakar is far from over.”
Tomorrow, the riders will set off for the ninth stage of the Dakar, from Ha’il to Alula, a total of 639 km including 417 km of special and 222 km of liaison.
