Rui Gonçalves 8th today!

Dakar 2024 étape 4 : Rui Gonçalves 8th today!

The fourth stage of the 2024 Dakar Rally had the riders racing from Al Salamiya to Al-Hofuf, for a total distance of 631 km including 299 km of special and 332 km of liaison which finished the marathon stage which began on Monday morning. The riders only had 2 hours of assistance from the mechanics last night and slept alone in tents in the middle of the desert.

The level of difficulty was slightly lowered by a notch, the stage was shorter but faster than the previous ones, but navigation remained crucial.

Rui Gonçalves had excellent results in this stage. Just like yesterday, he found the right pace from the start of the special, and managed his race very intelligently, finding the right balance between speed and navigation. He finished 8th for the day and is 14th in the general classification, 54 minutes behind the leader and only 20 minutes from the top 10. Harith Noah finished 21st in the stage and is 18th in the provisional general classification.

Harith Noah: P21

Provisional general classification

Rui Gonçalves: P14

Harith Noah: P18

Rui Gonçalves:

“Today’s stage was a little shorter than the others but included a lot of liaison. The course was faster, and we had more sand. We once again had to be very vigilant when navigating because we could very quickly make a mistake, stray from the course, and make a mistake. Many riders paid the price and lost time and position. I managed to stay focused and avoid all the pitfalls. I finished the stage in the top 10, 8th to be precise, and that gives me confidence for the days to come. I am very happy with this result, for me and for all the members of the team who do a huge amount of work every day so that we can ride in the best conditions! I would like to thank all our sponsors, the entire team and my fans for their support and encouragement.”

 Harith Noah:

“I finished the 4th day, unlike last year when I was the victim of a fall forcing me to abandon, one more stage which brings me closer to the finish. It wasn’t my best day though; we had some difficult and rutted slopes. I felt uncomfortable and my head was not in harmony with the roadbook. I did catch up with another rider and we rode together, the last few kilometers in the dunes were fun! Tomorrow is a dunes only stage.”

Tomorrow, the riders will set off for the fifth stage of the Dakar, from Al-Hofuf to Shubaytah, 645 km including 118 km of special and 527 km of liaison.
